OTTO specializes in handmade Turkish imports for the home, each created by artisans working in a centuries-old decorative arts tradition. The store located at 437 Warren Street in Hudson, New York, features traditionally designed and hand-painted ceramics, woven throws, and kilim pillows as well as jewelry, novelty items, and hand blown and painted glass objects that reflect a more contemporary style.
“Turkish wares have a classic beauty that can fit into any period décor from the most modern urban loft spaces to classic country houses,” says Michael Morrissey, who opened Otto with partner Russell Hatch in 2004. “I’ve always appreciated the beauty and vibrant colors of traditional Turkish ceramics”, says Russell Hatch. “But the modern art glass objects sold in several shops around Istanbul are also captivating.” Both Hatch and Morrissey make regular trips to Turkey to stock the shelves of OTTO, bringing a unique international flavor to the already sophisticated retail environment of the upstate New York town.
